LESS IS MORE - INTRODUCTION
When a person eats less food, he or she will automatically lose weight. This is a simple fact. For most men, because they can eat as many as 2,000 calories a day and still lose weight, eating less is merely a matter of your manipulating the ingredients on the plate.
It will not hurt anyone in your family to eat less—except for active teens and athletes in training. There is no question your husband will notice some sort of change, but chances are good he won't notice exactly what the difference is. More than likely, the 1,000 calories a day you will be taking away from him were usually lost in so-called "empty" calories and will not be sorely missed.
You will be using a method of vague calorie counting I call calorie budgeting. It works exactly like your family financial budget. Your man is allowed 1,500 to 2,000 calories a day. You must do this on a daily, not a weekly, basis, so he doesn't overeat one day and fast the next. You will be serving him (or seeing that he eats) three meals a day; I do not recommend skipping meals. Let me make that a bit stronger: I am violently opposed to anyone skipping meals. Each meal is budgeted at approximately 500 calories; you then have another 500 to play around with in the form of desserts, snacks, drinks, mathematical mistakes, or whatever. After all, you will not be counting, just estimating; the leeway frees you from carrying a calculator or keeping large sums scribbled on your memory.
